Pair of Hans Wegner Three Legged Shell Chairs in Oak by Carl Hansen & Son made in Denmark with their original Maharam fabric. Originally designed and manufactured in 1963, the Shell Chair failed to sell and was discontinued until it achieved notoriety in auction sales and was rereleased by Hansen in 1997. This one is of recent vintage and is in excellent, barely used condition. I imagine the fabric is by a significant designer, but have not been able to pinpoint it yet. The european oak has a thick, rich grain,the scale is generously proportioned and quality of the chair is readily apparent. In addition, the design of this chair solves a difficult decorating problem; with its narrow back, single leg and wide seat, it fits into a corner well. Measures 36 1/4″w X 32 3/4″d X 29 1/4″h. Seat height is 14″.
