1960s Lightolier Tension Lamp by Gerald Thurston

1960s Lightolier Tension Lamp by Gerald Thurston. It looks like Thurston took his inspiration from George Nelson's CSS wall units for this design, though it wouldn't be surprising if each was designed completely independently. The lamp consists of an aluminum i-beam with three conical metal lamps with floating tubular perforated diffusers/directors mounted on the outer edge with three brass rods. Lamps are fully articulating and can be moved up or down anywhere on the vertical support. They operate via a conical turn switch at the top of each lamp (one missing original finial). Made for a standard 8 foot ceiling, its height adjusts from 7' 7" - 8' 5". Marked Lightolier. $350.
